design services

We offer you design and layout services at very reasonable rates. We can handle any part of the production process, or can put the whole project together for you. You'll need to provide a photograph/transparency/art, text, and a rough sketch of your ideas. The concept can be left to the designer, but remember your thoughts and ideas are central to the look of your package. All of this is well worth a conversation to discuss the layout ideas and options. When everything has been put together, we'll send you PDF proofs for approval. Once approved we go to print and disc film output.
Contact Bill at frontporchcd@comcast.net to discuss your graphics needs.

Electronic file preparation overview
QuarkXPress or Adobe InDesign should be used to lay out the CD print material.
Projects created in Adobe Illustrator need to be saved as eps files, with all text outlined. Supply all Photoshop graphics separately. Include all fonts used also. Be sure all Photoshop files placed are in CMYK mode, and at least 300 DPI.
For projects created in Adobe Photoshop, we require that you send us layered files, and do not rasterize the text layers. All Photoshop creations and scans need to be done at a high resolution. 360 dpi is optimum, 300 dpi is sufficient. 1000 DPI or more is recommended for any line-art or logo bitmap files. Create your files in CMYK mode.
Digital camera photos should be shot at the highest resolution and a minimum of 4 megapixels.
Corel Draw can have inherent problems for image setters, and may run into additional expense. If it needs to be used, save the file as a .AI (Illustrator) file, with fonts as paths, and supply all high res graphics separately.
Printing requires an 1/8" bleed to extend beyond trim, of all background printing. Also allow for a "safety" of an 1/8" within the trim area for copy or other key elements.
The CD Label needs to be built as a one, two, or three color file, using pantone colors, not CMYK or RGB. (cyan, yellow magenta and black can be used as solid separate colors) Photoshop files need to be done as duo-tones, using colors from the pantone coated library. Keep in mind that there will be the bright silver of the disc showing through wherever you have white, unless you specify a white base down first. The white base is considered one of the ink colors.

Duplication or Replication
Front Porch is primarily involved with "Replication." This is where from your approved CDR the plant makes a glass master and creates a metal stamper. The stamper is then used to individually manufacture each CD through an injection molding process. Duplication, or short run CDs, is the process of transferring data or audio to a pre-existing CDR.
